linda allen was driving home from columbia sportswear co., where she worked designing footwear, when she noticed the car ahead had swerved to avoid something on the road. it was a robin. she pulled over and grabbed the small dog crate from the backseat of her car, scooped up the bird and took it to the audubon society. the robin had obviously been hit. the staff at the audubon society asked her to come back in one week's time to return the bird to the exact spot it was found, and set it free.
